Who We Are
Decorative Materials was founded in 1988 by Margot Hampleman after a laborious hunt for unique tile for her personal home. Margot fell head over heels for tile and discovered an opportunity to bring exposure to talented artisans from across the country.
She began to seek out distinctive, handcrafted tile which she carried around in her station wagon to present to designers and architects in the Denver area until eventually opening a showroom. While building her business in Denver, Margot identified the same need in the high-end Aspen Valley. After 5 years of driving back and forth, she expanded the business with a showroom in the Aspen area to complement her Denver outpost.
Margot's dream blossomed into one of the country’s leading tile and stone showrooms. Five showrooms and a warehouse later, Decorative Materials has become the largest privately owned luxury tile showroom in Colorado.
A love of design and exceptional materials is not just a passion, but a family legacy. After 15 years in the family business, Margot's daughter, Kirsten Schmit, took the helm as President of Decorative Materials. Today, this dynamic mother-daughter team works tirelessly to drive the company's success, placing the well-being of clients and employees at the forefront of their endeavors.

With five showroom locations, we represent a curated collection of luxury products. Decorative Materials spans the state of Colorado with fully staffed locations in Denver, Edwards (Vail), and Basalt (Aspen), Architectural + Design Libraries in Crested Butte and Telluride, and a warehouse in Denver.
At Decorative Materials, we collaborate with interior designers, architects, builders, installers, and homeowners to find the right product for the right project, every time. We offer thoughtful, individually tailored designs using a rich variety of customizable, high-quality products.
With a broad network of vendors, our product selection is truly endless. We constantly seek out new collections from around the world to bring innovative products to the Rocky Mountain Design Community.

We often work in partnership with homeowners, though we kindly ask that materials be purchased through a certified installer, designer, architect, builder, or other trade professional.
